FORESTRY OPERATIONS IN THE POLICIES AT HOUSTON HOUSE

11/22/2016

STAY SAFE!

Forestry machinery is being used in the woodlands surrounding Houston House.
Machinery is being used to carry out ‘thinning’ operations. This involves the selective removal of trees and is vital to the ongoing improvements and management of the woods.
Signage has been erected to highlight areas where work is taking place and tape has also been used to close paths and prevent entry to the working areas. This work will be on-going over the winter months.

If entering the woodland signage and restricted areas must be obeyed for your own safety.

We are delighted to announce that Mark Crichton Maitland has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Renfrewshire. Mark was commissioned by the Lord-Lieutenant Guy Clark, the Queen's representative in Renfrewshire.
The function of Deputy Lieutenants is to assist in the performance of any public duty performed by the Lord-Lieutenant and the Vice-Lieutenant. Where Deputy Lieutenants are asked to stand in for the Lord-Lieutenant, they are representing Her Majesty the Queen.
It is a great honour as Mark's father, the late David Crichton Maitland was a past Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire.

Cross country training at Houston House
We were delighted to see a great article about Kilmacolm and Kilallan Riding Club at Houston House in the August edition of Farming Scotland Magazine, promoting one of Scotland's best eventing training venues.
Houston cross country course built on Elderslie Estates land, was the brainchild of Muriel Colquhoun MBE nearly twenty years ago. The course was initially built to give confidence to horses and ponies of all levels. Houston House Horse Trials ran as an affiliated British Eventing event for 10 years, supported by Lottery funding and Elderslie Estates.
In 2008 Kilmacolm and Kilallan Riding Club took over the lease and over the following years refurbished the jumps bringing the total number of jumps to 89, with the help of local businesses such as Bridge of Weir Leather Company and Malcolm Logistics.
The emphasis now is on training and British Eventing, British Riding Clubs and The Pony Club all train in the beautiful surroundings of the estate.
